Sample Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1907 by town founder and original fire chief, John Sample. The SVFD original consisted of town business owners who operated horse drawn hose carts and fought fire wearing loafers and leather hats.

Today, the SVFD has over 100 years of heritage and operates two brush trucks, one engine, one tender and covers nearly 5,000 square miles in Doe County, Texas.

Under the guidance and training of Chief Fredrick Denver, the SVFD is proud to serve the community of Sample and Doe County.
